Research is integral to the work of the American Liver Foundation (ALF) and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and is essential to improving treatment and finding a cure for liver disease.
Since 1979, the Research Awards Program has provided more than $24 million in research funding. Over 750 qualified scientists and physicians have pursued careers in liver disease research and treatment as a result of receiving these grants early in their careers.
In April 2011, the American Liver Foundation announced the recipients of the 2011 Research Awards Program. Sixteen scientists representing eleven medical and research institutions were awarded $1,350,000 to support their research in the areas of cystic fibrosis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver development, biliary atresia, cellular transplantation, liver cancer, hepatitis C, autoimmune hepatitis, liver fibrosis, liver regeneration and liver carcinogenesis.
The American Liver Foundation is proud to support these research efforts and is hopeful that they will bring us closer to finding a cure for liver disease.
