Director of Development

The American Liver Foundation (ALF) is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for the promotion of liver health and disease prevention through research, education and advocacy for those affected by hepatitis and other liver-related diseases.

ALF is currently looking for a senior level professional, reporting to the CDO, to establish a department and lead the Foundation’s efforts to conceive, plan and implement comprehensive fund-raising initiatives, including the cultivation of major gift prospects; grant solicitations; direct mail membership and renewal programs; and planned giving efforts.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to inspire and lead a development team. The ability to strategically integrate the development function with marketing and communications functions and interface with a national network of twenty-six Chapters is also essential.

Requirements: Candidates must have at least 10 years of experience in building and overseeing the development function, with a demonstrated track record of meeting established goals. Experience with a chapter-driven disease foundation, while not essential, is a plus. Also important, is knowledge of best practices, as well as knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local rules, regulations for meeting fundraising compliance. Candidates should be self-starters, who are capable of networking and interacting with a diverse group of local Chapter Boards and volunteers, and physician-led, medical advisory Boards. A Bachelors Degree is required and an advanced degree a plus.
