The American Liver Foundation Welcomes Four New Members to the National Board of Directors

Donna Cryer, Chris McCarrick, Val Peacock, and Susan Stone to Help the Foundation in the Fight Against Liver Disease

New York, June 9, 2007 - Leaders in the fields of health care public relations, business technology, clinical research, and financial planning were elected to the Board of Directors of the American Liver Foundation (ALF), on June 9, 2007, announced Chairman of the Board, Dr. James L. Boyer, Ensign Professor of Medicine and Director of the Liver Center at Yale University School of Medicine. The 24-member National Board of Directors is comprised of members with medical, scientific and other related expertise necessary to help to further the organization’s mission of providing funding for research, education and advocacy on behalf of the 30 million Americans with liver disease.

“ALF is very fortunate to have these four talented and dedicated individuals join the Board of Directors at this juncture in our history. The different perspectives and the leadership that they will bring to the table will be a great asset to the organization,” stated Dr. Boyer.

Donna R. Cryer, J.D., CEO of Cryerhealth, LLC, a public relations firm based in Washington, DC, has extensive personal and professional experience with hepatology and ALF. She is a liver transplant recipient and has served as a patient affairs specialist for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) which operates the national organ transplant matching and policy system. Ms. Cryer advanced GlaxoSmithKline’s hepatitis B outreach to Asian American communities and also serves on Board of Director of the National Capital Area chapter of ALF.

Chris McCarrick, is the CEO of Velocity Group, Inc., a multinational company focused on delivering enterprise technology solutions to government and commercial organizations. Mr. McCarrick’s past business experience includes finance and financial systems and through this experience gained a depth of knowledge that led to senior roles in several technology and consulting firms. He is an active member of the National Capital Chapter Board.

Val Peacock currently works at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation where she coordinates clinical liver research. She has also been involved in running patient support groups. Ms. Peacock has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has been a guest speaker at international medical conferences, such as the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), and Digestive Disease Week (DDW), and has lectured to medical, business and political leaders. She has been involved in planning several of ALF's Los Angeles Chapter fund raising events.

Susan Sherman Stone began her career in financial services with Price Waterhouse & Co, then General Cinema, before creating the tax and financial planning department of Needel, Welch & Stone. She earned a BA in Mathematics and MST as well as the CPA and CFP designations. She has served as a consultant to lay trustees and executors and counseled individual clients in finding meaning through philanthropy. Susan is a member of the Executive Board of the New England Chapter and is involved with several other important local organizations. She was diagnosed with PBC 18 years ago and has been committed to the organization since then.
