The American Liver Foundation applauds the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the Affordable Care Act. This historic decision will help to ensure that the 30 million Americans living with some form of liver disease will have equal access to quality and affordable health care that is lifesaving.
“This ruling will help to take down many barriers to preventive care, medicines and treatments that are necessary not only for those Americans living with liver disease but to pave the way for preventive actions such as testing for hepatitis C.” said Newton Guerin, President and CEO of the American Liver Foundation.
The Affordable Health Care Act has already provided benefits for people with liver disease by allowing children to remain on their parent’s health insurance to the age of 26, elimination of lifetime limits on health insurance coverage, lower prescription drug for seniors and in the future will strike down discrimination for those with pre-existing conditions seeking health insurance.
