The American Liver Foundation today announced the launch of its new hepatitis C information and education support program entitled, Hepatitis C: Diagnosis, Treatment, Support. With the introduction of two new treatments for hepatitis C, this is a disease that can be cured. The goals of the Hepatitis C: Diagnosis, Treatment and Support program are to provide accurate and independent information to those considering treatment, answer questions, help identify available resources and identify avenues of support.

"Funding for Hepatitis C - Diagnosis, Treatment and Support was provided by Merck. We are truly appreciative of our partnership and their generosity, because it has enabled the American Liver Foundation to remain the number one source of information and support for patients and families living with liver disease,” said American Liver Foundation President and CEO Newton Guerin.

New Hepatitis C Website
The Hepatitis C: Diagnosis, Treatment and Support website (www.hepc.liverfoundation.org) offers the most comprehensive place on the web for those diagnosed with hepatitis C looking for information on treatment options. The site provides in-depth information about hepatitis C, how the infection is spread (and not spread), where to find a health care specialist to treat hepatitis C, and questions to ask about treatments, along with tips on managing your health during treatments and places of support.

“This website provides a one-stop place where a person with hepatitis C can turn for answers for themselves and for family members,” said Guerin.

American Liver Foundation HelpLine Service Adds a Dedicated Hepatitis C Specialist, Expanded Hours and Information in Several Languages After receiving a diagnosis of hepatitis C, a person will have questions and may need help in finding information and sorting through options. To help answer this need, the American Liver Foundation has added a hepatitis C specialist to the staff and expanded the HelpLine hours. Callers can now reach the Information Specialist at the Helpline (1-800-GO LIVER) from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM Eastern time, Monday – Friday. In addition, questions sent on e-mail (info@liverfoundation.org) will receive a prompt response. Interpreters are now available as needed and hepatitis C materials have been translated to several languages.

“We understand the complexities of hepatitis C and want to be here to help at every step of the process – from diagnosis to cure and these new tools will be of a great benefit,” said Guerin.
