Donna R. Cryer, President and CEO of the American Liver Foundation and a 20 year resident of the Washington DC area expressed her personal sympathy to the National Zoo on the loss of the panda cub to liver disease. Ms. Cryer said, “The loss of any life to liver disease is extremely sad and we join the nation in mourning the loss of this precious panda cub who is a local, national and international treasure. We know that liver disease can strike anyone – from infants to the elderly and now we also know it can also be devastating to animals.
Every day we are working with people with liver disease including those parents with a young child diagnosed with some form of biliary atresia or other pediatric liver conditions. Every year over 15,000 children are hospitalized from liver conditions.
The American Liver Foundation is dedicated to advancing research, treatments and support for all those who face liver disease.
