13th Annual Flavors of Connecticut a Sizzling Success!

Signature culinary gala raises over $266,000 for the mission work of the ALF

We are proud to announce that the 2014 Flavors of Connecticut event was the most successful event in Flavor’s history, nationwide! The evening could not have been more outstanding for the guests at the 13th annual event. Throughout the event you could hear the tingling of taste buds and the sizzling of the pans as the guests enjoyed the unique culinary flavors prepared by thirty four of the most reputable chefs in Connecticut. This annual Flavors had yet another sold out crowd of over 420 guests on April 1st and raised over $266,000 for liver disease research, education and support. The Connecticut Division staff would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all who attended and supported this year’s Flavors event and to the restaurants for their participation.

Guests of Flavors were welcomed by Renee DiNino-Event Chairman and Chef Tyler Anderson, Honorary Chef Chairman. The cocktail reception was hosted by North East Wine Brokers, Thurston Foods & Saratoga Springs, RIPE Juice, Hartford Distributors and Franklin Distributors. Guests were given the opportunity to bid on over 200 unique silent auction items. These items included gift certificates to local businesses, culinary experiences with Flavors chefs, vacation packages, fine wines, sports memorabilia, spa packages and more. The silent auction raised over $38,000 of the funds brought in that night. The cocktail reception offered guests a chance to try each chef’s culinary expertise with passed hors d’eouvres such as bacon and fire roasted corn guacamole by Chef Tim Scott from Geronimo’s and seared tenderloin roulade with manchego by Chef James Martell of On the Rocks Foxhopyard.

Flavors was emceed by Chairman, Renee DiNino, Midday Host of The River 105.9 and the Fund-The-Mission Speaker was Christian Mercado, an eleven year old living with autoimmune hepatitis. Christian understands the importance of research to find a cure for liver disease and he helped us raise over $33,000 for the Fund-The-Mission portion of the event.

Paul Stansel and Michael Nuzzo of Absolute Auctions conducted the evening’s live auction, raising $22,500. Some of the live auction items that evening included: a couples getaway at the Madison Beach Hotel, a seven night Italian getaway and four nights in the Cayman Islands.

In addition to the amazing cuisine and auction donations compliments of the participating chefs, they each brought in additional staff and vendors to create extraordinary and unique table designs. These designs topped off the evening’s array of wonderful creations. The most witty table design went to La Tavola Ristorante of Waterbury ; most elegant was won by Mambo Cocina Latina of New Haven and Bin 100 in Milford; “Something out of Nothing” was taken by Millwright’s of Simsbury; Best Floral went to The Willows at DoubleTree by Hilton in Bristol; best giveaway was awarded to The Wharf at Madison Beach Hotel. Guests at their table received a” shipwreck survival kit,” including flip-flops, sailor’s cap, rum, beach towel, bandana and handmade chocolate starfish. Best overall table design went to Caseus in New Haven.
