Signature culinary gala raises over $275,000 for the mission work of the ALF
WATCH A BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK AT Flavors of Connecticut 2015
We are proud to announce that the 2015 Flavors of Connecticut event was the division's most successful event in Flavor’s history. The evening could not have been more outstanding for the guests at the 14th annual event. Throughout the event you could hear the tingling of taste buds and the sizzling of the pans as the guests enjoyed the unique culinary flavors prepared by thirty four of the most reputable chefs in Connecticut. This annual Flavors had yet another sold out crowd of over 420 guests on March 31st and raised over $275,000 for liver disease research, education and support. The Connecticut Division staff would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all who attended and supported this year’s Flavors event and to the restaurants for their participation.
Guests of Flavors were welcomed by Renee DiNino-Event Chairman and Chef Arlene Ghent, Honorary Chef Chairman. The cocktail reception was hosted by North East Wine Brokers, Thurston Foods & Saratoga Springs, Thomas Hooker Brewery and Sticks & Stones at Mohegan Sun. Guests were given the opportunity to bid on over 200 unique silent auction items. These items included gift certificates to local businesses, culinary experiences with Flavors chefs, vacation packages, fine wines, sports memorabilia, spa packages and more. The silent auction raised over $33,000 of the funds brought in that night. The cocktail reception offered guests a chance to try each chef’s culinary expertise with passed hors d’eouvres such as Open Face Pork Belly Grilled Cheese from Foxwoods, Ceviche de Pescado from Besito, and Rabbit, Saffron and Gorgonzola Cheese stuffes Arancini Balls from Esca.
Flavors was emceed by Chairman, Renee DiNino, Midday Host of The River 105.9 and Mark Dixon, WFSB meterologist. Tthe Fund-The-Mission Speaker was Darien Grover, mother of Samuel who is 4 years old and had living donor liver transplant when he was an infant. Sam's father, Josiah was his life saving liver donor. The Grover Family has made it their mission to align with the American Liver Foundation in effort to continue to raise funds for research, awareness and education. The Grover Family helped to raise $38,000 the evening of Flavors during the Fund The Mission program.
Paul Stansel and Michael Nuzzo of Absolute Auctions conducted the evening’s live auction, raising $21,000. Some of the live auction items that evening included: a couples getaway at the Madison Beach Hotel, a six night Italian getaway, a six night Ireland vacation and a catered cocktail party for 25 by Ghent Catering, Caseus and Thali- three of Connecticut's top chefs.
In addition to the amazing cuisine and auction donations compliments of the participating chefs, they each brought in additional staff and vendors to create extraordinary and unique table designs. These designs topped off the evening’s array of wonderful creations. The most witty table design went to Nataz of North Branford and Thali of New Haven for a tie ; most elegant was won by The Willows at the Double Tree in Bristol; “Something out of Nothing” was taken by The Community Table in Litchfield; Best Floral went to The Delmar Hotel's Artisan and l'escale restaurantsl; best giveaway was awarded to The Wharf at Madison Beach Hotel; Best overall table design, once again, was won by Caseus Fromagerie Bistro in New Haven for their "Food as Art" theme, paying homage to the world's most famous artists.
