PHYSICIAN OF THE YEAR: Dr. Robert S. Brown, Jr., MD, MPH is the Frank Cardile Professor of Medicine and Surgery and Chief of the Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City. He also serves as Director of the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. This prestigious award is given to a physician who has excelled in the advancement of treatment for liver disease and its prevention. The award recipient is selected by a committee of his peers, the Medical Advisory Committee of the American Liver Foundation, Greater New York Division.

SPIRIT OF NEW YORK AWARD: John Mahdessian, President, The Madame Paulette Organization. Mr. Mahdessianhas become an internationally-renowned leader of cleaning, restoring and preserving fine couture apparel, bridal gowns, vintage creations and interior furnishings for clients around the world. He receives this award in recognition of his continuing commitment to the New York community. He is active in a variety of charitable efforts in the Greater New York area as well as abroad.

LIVER CHAMPION OF THE YEAR: Frank Cardile, Chairman, The Interwire Group. Mr. Cardile, received a liver transplant in 2004 after battling Hepatitis C for many years. He has been a longtime supporter of the American Liver Foundation and has worked tirelessly to raise awareness and helped fund research to make liver disease a thing of the past. Mr. Cardile established his own business. Interwire Group, in 1981. Interwire Group is the leading national distributor of fine quality wires. It is renowned worldwide for its breakthrough advances in the wire industry.

The evening’s festivities begin with a cocktail reception at 6 PM followed by dinner and a lively program from 7 PM -10 PM. The event will also feature a silent auction as well as a Fund-a-Grant, which will provide attendees an on-the-spot opportunity to raise money to fund a research grant. Past auction items have been opportunities for children to serve as the Honorary Ballkid at a NY Knicks game, private wine tastings, haute couture from high-profile designers, sports and entertainment memorabilia, vacation packages, and more.

The American Liver Foundation is the nation’s largest non-profit organization promoting liver health and disease prevention. The Foundation achieves its mission in the fight against liver disease by providing financial support for medical research, education for medical professionals and advocacy and information for patients and their families and by creating public awareness campaigns about liver wellness and disease prevention.
