Greater New York Division Leaders participate in launch of National Patient Advisory Committee (NPAC)

Through the generous support of Gilead Sciences, the American Liver Foundation has launched its first National Patient Advisory Committee, comprised of 30 members who are living with or were cured of hepatitis C.

Program Recap: Trends in Hepatitis C Treatment

The Greater New York Division of the American Liver Foundation partnered with Westchester Medical Center and New York Medical College to host a Trends in Hepatitis C Treatment program in Westchester County, NY on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Over 50 patients and their caregivers attended for an informative program.

Liver Life Challenge 2014 TCS NYC Marathon Recap

The 2014 Liver Life Challenge team did a great job at the 2014 TCS NYC Marathon on November 2. The American Liver Foundation team was comprised of 17 members who collectively raised over $65,000 for the foundation through their efforts. For many of the runners the journey to fundraise and run with our team started a year ago – inspired by the runners of the 2013 marathon!

Trends in Hepatitis C Treatment – November 18, 2014

On Tuesday, November 18, 2014, the Greater New York Division of the American Liver Foundation is partnering with Westchester Medical Center and New York Medical College to host a Trends in Hepatitis C Treatment program at the Skyline Auditorium located at 19 Skyline Drive; Hawthorne, NY 10532 (Westchester County). The program taking place from 5:30PM-7:30PM, will help to boost education and awareness regarding the diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis C.

Raising awareness about hepatitis B in New York

Two out of three Asian-Americans infected with hepatitis B don’t know that they have it, and one out of 12 Asian-Americans is infected with both hepatitis B and C. Currently, there are more than 100,000 people in New York City known to be living with hepatitis B, and likely many more who aren’t even aware that they have it.

Meet Christine Kiernan who served as an intern for the American Liver Foundation, Greater New York Division during the summer of 2014. Christine is a Masters in Public Health student at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She will be receiving her MPH degree in the coming year and plans to find a fulfilling job in the public health work field.

Celebrating Another Chance at Life Re-Birthday Party Highlights the Miracle of Liver Transplantation

Nearly 100 liver transplant recipients came together on May 17 to share their personal testimonies of receiving another chance at life thanks to the gift of liver transplantation. They convened as part of a “Re-Birthday Party” at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School sponsored by the American Liver Foundation, Greater New York Division in partnership with University Hospital, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and NJ Sharing Network.

August 2014: The American Liver Foundation, Greater New York Division proudly supports the New York City Hepatitis B Universal Birth Dose Initiative.The Hep B Universal Birth Dose Initiative is a multi-phase project that aims to gather support for the hepatitis B birth dose vaccine in New York City. The project will encourage hospitals and birthing centers to adopt a universal hepatitis B birth dose policy, as well as guide qualifying facilities in applying and seeking recognition through the Immunization Action Coalition’s (IAC) hepatitis B birth dose Honor Roll. World Hepatitis Day, Monday, July 28, 2014 - For the world's 8th biggest killer, viral hepatitis is remarkably neglected. That’s why in 2010 the World Health Organization made World Hepatitis Day one of only 4 official disease-specific world health days, to be celebrated each year on the 28th July. Millions of people across the world now take part in World Hepatitis Day, to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, and to call for access to treatment, better prevention programs and governments action.

The American Liver Foundation, Greater New York Division is a proud to support Senate Bill 876/Assembly Bill 2555 which requires hospitals & health care professionals to offer Hepatitis C testing to high-risk individuals. We agree that New Jersey must act to stop the silent killer - Hepatitis C. The American Liver Foundation was proud to have petitions about the bill at the New Jersey Liver Life Walk on May 31.

American Liver Foundation and New York City Leaders Call for Action to Address the Impact of Viral Hepatitis

Representatives from community-based organizations, local and federal public health officials, NYC Council members and patient advocates gathered on the steps of city hall on May 15th to raise awareness about viral hepatitis (hepatitis B and hepatitis C). This event coincided with May’s National Hepatitis Awareness Month, which included National Hispanic Hepatitis Awareness Day (May 15th) and National Hepatitis Testing Day (May 19th).
