The Greater New York Division of the American Liver Foundation held its annual ReBirthday event at Homewood Suites in Carle Place Long Island on Saturday April 12, 2014. This event was launched more than 20 years ago.
This weekend program opened with an educational presentation on Transplantation, given by Dr. James S. Park, MD, CNSC Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine Co-Clinical
Director, NYU Hepatology Associates Clinical Director, NYU Langone at Great Neck NYU Mary Lea Johnson Richards Organ Transplantation Center. Questions followed resulting in a lively discussion.
19 transplant recipients were on hand to celebrate their ReBirthdays. Ranging in age from 3 to 63. We heard personal accounts of what life has been like for transplant recipients and the gratitude they feel for this great re-birth they have been fortunate enough to experience.
While we come together to celebrate life we also want to include and celebrate the donor -- the person who made the greatest gift possible. Sandy and Robin Brawer, a donor family, shared their daughters gift of life and their moving account of what drives them today. Keeping her legacy alive through their ongoing work with organ donation. Learn more about Janine Brawer's story here.
To round out the day’s event entertainment was provided by Madison Zamor – Madison is a young actor, singer and dancer who has played on the Radio City stage. Madison has appeared as Kayla in the Radio City Christmas spectacular for the last 3 years.
The 2014 ReBirthday was sponsored by Homewood Suites.
