Mechanisms of Disease and Principles of Management

Target Audience:
This program is intended for primary care physicians, gastroenterologists, hepatologists, oncologists, infectious disease specialists, internists, nurses and nurse practitioners.

Course Objectives:

· Understand the biology and the function of hepatic cell types and apply the knowledge in basic science to the clinical practice in liver diseases.

· To update the latest AASLD guidelines on therapy of liver disease based on new evidence.

· Discuss new drugs/treatments that are being tested in clinical trials and their potential for clinical use.

· Discuss risk stratification in patients with various forms of liver disease and the possibilities of patient-tailored management.

The purpose of the program is to provide up-to-date information in liver biology that provides the principles for current and future therapeutic interventions for liver diseases. This program is distinctive from other programs, since it will provide excellent opportunities to learn recent advances in liver biology and to apply this knowledge to understand the principles of different therapeutic measures in liver diseases. The program will additionally provide attendees an opportunity to interact with those speakers who are experts in a variety of specific areas in liver diseases, including chronic hepatitis C and B virus infections, alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, drug induced liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma.
