Surviving the Season of Giving without Giving your Waistband Extra Stress
The holidays are coming and that means the season of delicious looking smorgasbords is also coming. How can you make it through without regrets in January? Below are some tips that may help you.
- Remember, “the holidays” are actually individual days, not entire weeks or months. Splurge on those specific days.
- Skip the foods you can get throughout the year, focus on the specialty dishes you only get to taste at this time of year.
- Enjoy the foods that taste great. If you’re not crazy about something after the first bite, move on to something else.
- If you drink alcohol, alternate between sparkling water with a twist of lemon or lime and an alcoholic drink. It will save calories and provide some of the 64oz of water you are supposed to drink every day.
- Before heading to the party, eat a small healthy meal, this includes before the big holiday meal. If you aren’t hungry when you arrive, you are less likely to dive into the snacks without thinking about your choices.
- Carry your drink in your dominate hand. It makes reaching for food more inconvenient.
- Decide if you are going to indulge in an alcoholic drink, an ‘over the top’ main dish or a dessert instead of all three. If you have several events, rotate your choice.
