The "Boogie Ball" raises funds for liver disease research while the Missouri/Kansas Chapter celebrates it's 10 year anniversary.
February 15, 2008 will go down in history as an evening when polyester, funky chic and trendy attire made a comeback! The American Liver Foundation Missouri/Kansas chapter raised awareness of the need for liver disease research funding at the 2008 Boogie Ball. John Pertzborn and Randi Naughton of Fox 2 KTVI hosted the evening, presenting the 2008 Leadership Award to Dr. James Kimmey, President, Missouri Foundation for Health, for his dedication, leadership, and collaborative vision to building partnerships within our community.
Katherine Auble, Executive Director, presented the surprise 2008 Volunteer of the Year Award to Vickie Crooke. Sam Hamacher, President, Harbor Group, led this year's Fund-A-Grant which received almost $25,000 in pledges for research. Elizabeth Leesman, a liver donor to her 1 year old son Alex, shared their story which touched the hearts of everyone in attendance.
Also in attendance were two local ALF grant recipients, Dr. Jeffrey Teckman, Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, and Dr. Alexander Weyman, St. Louis Children's Hospital. They both communicated the importance of the ALF research grant program for their own careers as well as for future researchers.
The American Liver Foundation would like to thank everyone who made the Boogie Ball possible, and we hope you plan on joining us in 2009.
