>The legendary Pointer Sisters got everyone off their seats when they took the stage for a live concert at the American Liver Foundation's second annual Boogie Ball.
February 13, 2009, will go down in history as an evening when polyester, funky chic and trendy attire made a comeback! The American Liver Foundation Mid-America Region raised awareness of the need for liver disease research funding at the 2009 Boogie Ball. John Pertzborn and Randi Naughton of Fox 2 KTVI hosted the evening, along with Smash, 103.3 KLOU Greatest Hits, and McGraw Milhaven, KTRS, The Big 550. American Airlines, "The Offical Airline Sponsor of the Boogie Ball" awarded two round trip airline tickets for the best disco dressed duo to Cindi and Keith Guller. Robert Holmes, President and CEO, First Bank, presented the 2009 Leadership Award to Dr. William A. Peck, Director, Center for Health Policy and Alan A. and Edith L.Wolff Distinguished Professor of Medicine Washington University, for his dedication, leadership, and collaborative vision to building partnerships within our community.
Katherine Auble, Executive Director, presented the surprise 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award to Janice Hawk, a dedicated volunteer who has been with the organization since its start. J. Kim Tucci, President, Pasta House Co. served as this year's auctioneer. Sam Hamacher, President, Harbour Group, led this year's Fund-A-Grant which received over $25,000 in pledges for research. Kristopher "Kris" Frischman, American Liver Foundation Ambassador was joined by Sam Fox, former US Ambassador to Belgium.
Spotlighted in the event were three local ALF grant recipients, Dr. Jeffrey Teckman, Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, Dr. Alexander Weyman and Dr. Joseph Palermo, St. Louis Children's Hospital. Dr. Palermo communicated the importance of the ALF research grant program for his career as well as for future researchers.
