"An Evening with Tony Bennett" raises funds for liver disease research and makes a name for the American Liver Foundation.
June 23, 2007 will go down in history as an evening not to be forgotten. The American Liver Foundation Missouri/Kansas chapter raised awareness of the need for liver disease research funding at its annual Gala. John Pertzborn and Randi Naughton of Fox 2 KTVI hosted the evening, presenting the 2007 Leadership Award to Mary Ann and E. Desmond Lee for their dedication and collaborative vision to building partnerships within our community.
Randi also presented the surprise 2007 Volunteer of the Year Award to Arleen and Dr. Phillip Korenblat. Sam Hamacher, President, Harbor Group, led this year's Fund-A-Grant which received almost $50,000 in pledges for research. Kris Frischman, a transplant patient, shared his story which touched the hearts of everyone in attendance.
Denice Thimes opened the night's entertainment with her soulful voice, and Tony Bennett wowed the audience with a 75-minute performance of all the songs we love. Tony sang his heart out and touched many, including Fred and Peggy Barton who were celebrating their 50th anniversary. The Bartons' first date was at the Chase Park Plaza, Khorassan Room, more than fifty years ago to see Tony Bennett. Their family surprised them and joined the Bartons to help celebrate this magical evening.
The American Liver Foundation would like to thank everyone who made this evening possible, and we hope you plan on joining us in 2008.
