Mentors reach out to patients on the Valley Isle

The Liver Buddies held its first training session for new Liver Buddies on Maui in late June, and now there are ten more mentors who can reach out to those affected by liver disease on the Valley Isle. Kirk Uechi and Norman and Anita Choy led the session that was held at Maui Memorial Medical Center. The Maui training was funded in part by a grant by the Fred Baldwin Memorial Foundation.
The Liver Buddies now has a total of 36 mentors on Oahu and Maui, composed of both liver patients and their spouses.

The training session held special importance for Kirk Uechi since the family members of his liver donor came for the training. Kirk has kept in touch with the Maui family since his transplant many years ago.
