Pediatric Liver Disease

Facts-At-A-Glance

• Approximately 15,000 hospitalizations occur each year for pediatric liver disease in the U.S.
• Incidence of all causes of neonatal liver disease may be as high as 1 in 2500 live births in the U.S.
• Biliary atresia incidence is 1 in 10,000 live births in the U.S. and there are approximately 300 new cases each year
• As many as 1 in 250 children is infected with hepatitis C in the U.S.
• Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease affects up to 10% of all children in the U.S.
• In 2010, 560 children had a liver transplant in the U.S.
