ALF Social Media Advocate Program (#ALFSMA)

Welcome to the new American Liver Foundation Social Media Advocate Program!

We've got some great supporters and very active followers on social media. We want to tap into your enthusiasm and recognize those interested as "virtual volunteers" to help raise awareness and spread the word about liver disease and American Liver Foundation activities, events and initiatives.

While we'd like our SMA's to be already active on their social media networks, professional experience is not necessary. Passion for the cause and/or the desire to be more closely connected to the organization is our main requirement. Together, we can have an exponential effect in getting the public's attention!

What does being an ALF Social Media Advocate (#ALFSMA) involve?

The main thing we'd like you to do is help us spread the word about liver disease, organ donation, and the American Liver Foundation- amplifying the message through social media, of course. In essence, we'd like your help in promoting activities, causes, campaigns, and our mission. In addition, you may be asked to do the following (though nothing is mandatory):

  • Be part of the conversation and encourage dialogue on our social networks.
  • Help direct people to ALF resources.
  • Give feedback on new resources and services before they are officially launched.
  • Occasionally participate in focus groups or topical internal conversations.
  • Tell your story to journalists working on liver-related stories.
  • Volunteer to moderate discussions in our liver support group.

There are no rules about how often you need to post or what to share. Again, we only ask that you help get the message out when you can!

What are the benefits of being an #ALFSMA?

As an advocate, here are some benefits you'll enjoy:

  • Recognition on the Honor Wall on our website, where can share your personal story about liver disease.
  • Inclusion of any links you may have to your personal blogs or websites.
  • Opportunities for your stories to be shared on our national social media accounts and in official ALF materials.
  • Access to an exclusive profile campaign pic on Facebook and background/cover image graphics for other SM sites to let everyone know your affiliation with ALF.
  • You'll be invited to a join a private ALF Social Media Advocate Group on Facebook where you can discuss issues with other members and receive information and content from us before it is public.
  • Future invitations to attend meetups or travel to ALF local and national events, like Capitol Hill Day in Washington, DC.
  • Chances to occasionally contribute content (guest blogging or posting) on ALF National social media accounts.
  • Opportunities for some official ALF swag (we're working on it!)
Sounds great! What's my next step?

To get started, we just need you to fill out the form below, where you can tell us more about yourself, including:

  • Your contact information.
  • Which social media channels you use, and your handles/accounts/websites that you plan on using as an advocate.
  • Which liver disease(s), you'd like to be affiliated with so that we can customize our requests and messaging to you.
That's it! Once we receive your signup form, we'll send you a welcome packet in a few weeks, which will include instructions, important numbers and links. Thanks for your interest, and we look forward to having you on board!
In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to contact David Barton, our Digital Media Content Manager, at dbarton@liverfoundation.org.
