About Our Delaware Valley Chapter

Since 1990, the Delaware Valley Chapter has served the the diverse communities of Eastern/Central Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Central/Southern New Jersey. Throughout the year, we provide comprehensive, region-wide education programs for patients, their families, and the general public, taught by our region's most celebrated hepatologists, transplant surgeons, and nurses.

We also offer hepatitis and liver disease training sessions for healthcare professionals. And we deliver thousands of brochures on liver health and disease prevention to our community of medical institutions, health clinics, local nonprofits, support groups, school nurses, and primary care physicians, and to the general public. In 2006, more than 1,000 individuals attended our educational programs, and an additional 4,000 were served throught the distribution of liver health literature.

We hold a number of special events every year to raise critical funds for our local education initiatives and advocacy efforts, and to support our nationwide research awards program. Our signature event is Flavors of Philadelphia, a culinary extravaganza where guests enjoy an up-close-and-personal dining experience with two dozen of the Delaware Valley's hottest chefs! Our Chapter's annual black tie event is the Medical Honors Gala, where we recognize members of our world-renowned medical community and other individuals for their outstanding contributions to the field of liver disease and the American Liver Foundation.

A Message from the Delaware Valley Chapter

Greetings! On behalf of our Board of Directors and Medical Advisory Committees, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the Web site of the Delaware Valley Chapter.

We hope that you spend time perusing our site and take advantage of the many offerings provided here – from our highly acclaimed educational initiatives to our over-the-top culinary gala Flavors of Philadelphia!

Our region is host to ten outstanding transplant centers (eight adult and two pediatric), and our celebrated Medical Leadership is second to none. We remain grateful to them for developing and presenting our education programs, and thank them for generously donating their time and expertise.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to the many individual patrons as well as corporate and foundation sponsors. Your unwavering support empowers us to create an environment in which we are fully responsive to our constituents’ needs; where we are the leader in disseminating information on liver wellness and disease prevention; and where we are a valuable and necessary resource for our medical community. Thank you for making our work possible!

Finally, we extend our sincere appreciation to liver patients and their families. You are the heart of the American Liver Foundation! We know all too well the challenges faced by patients and families because of our own personal experiences and interactions with patients and their families dealing with liver disease for many years. That experience, coupled with close personal contact with our community’s liver families and medical staff, has taught us all about the power of the human spirit.

We are honored to be a part of this extraordinary community and humbled to bear witness to your great acts of courage, generosity, and sacrifice.

Warm regards,

Pamela Gleason
Executive Director
