About the Hawaii Chapter

The Hawai'i Chapter of the American Liver Foundation, established in 2005, is the most recent addition to our network of 25 local chapters. The chapter meets a great need for information about liver health and liver disease in the Islands.

A Message From Executive Director Janice Nillias

Janice Nillias

Aloha and welcome! We are proud to be part of the nation's leading non-profit organization promoting liver health and disease prevention through research, education, and advocacy for those affected with liver-related diseases, including hepatitis. With so many individuals affected by liver diseases such as hepatitis B and C, our role is critical to the health and wellness of the Islands.

In Hawaii, it is estimated that 22,000 people are infected with hepatitis C and close to 50,000 with hepatitis B. Many remain unaware for years that they carry the virus because they experience few or no symptoms. By the time people are screened and diagnosed, the disease may be at a late stage, and liver damage may have already occurred.

Please visit our site often to learn about fundraising and program events that we have planned for the months and year ahead, as well as ways to get involved.

Your liver is important to your life. Let us show you how to keep your liver healthy, and join with us as we make a positive difference for Hawaii’s people. We need everyone’s kokua to address these important health issues. Mahalo!
