Hosting an Event

Hosting an event is actually quite simple because it involves doing what you normally do. The difference is, this time people have the opportunity to make a donation to the American Liver Foundation.

Possible ideas include, but are far from limited to:

  • Enjoy Cooking? Have a buffet or sit-down dinner for friends and family. They "pay" to enjoy good company and good food.
  • Crafty Person? Offer to teach a class for friends and family where they buy supplies and "pay" for the lesson.
  • Sports Enthusiast? Get a group together for a ride or tournament. Participants "pay" to join.
  • Book Lover? Host a book discussion group. Many authors now include suggested topics for discussion at the back of their books. Participants "pay" to join the discussion.
  • Card Player? Designate a night or hand where players "pay" to play.
  • Car Buff? Organize an oldies night car show, or talk to a local group about designating a night as American Liver Foundation night.
  • Bingo Fanatic? Split the winnings for the night with ALF.
  • People in the office trying to stop smoking? Loose weight? Participants “pay” if they light up, gain weight, etc.
  • Ask your boss if customers can be asked to “round up” their bill for Liver Awreness. A simple tally sheet to record the amount of the round up is all that is needed.
  • Tea/Coffee connoisseur? Offer a tea/coffee tasting for friends and neighbors for a "fee".
  • New to the neighborhood? Throw an open house for the neighbors, serve light snacks and beverages and have strategically placed donation boxes.

As you can see, the possibilities are endless and no event is too small. You can either charge admission or have donation cans scattered about the event. You just want people to know that you are collecting funds for the American Liver Foundation and will be used for education, advocacy and research.

Let us know about your plans and we can provide ideas or suggestions, post your event on the web site (if open to the public), as well as send you some information about the American Liver Foundation, liver wellness and liver diseases to have available for participants (if requested).
