About Our Chapter

With a long history of work in Minnesota, the Upper Midwest Chapter has grown in recent years from a single, modest group of caring individuals in Rochester, near the Mayo Clinic, and now touches lives and communities throughout Minnesota and the Dakotas.

Each year the Chapter holds events, large and small, that connect individuals and families touched by liver disease. It also leads public awareness programs that reach tens of thousands with messages vital to liver health and it provides continuing medical education opportunities that impact the clinical practices of hundreds of medical professionals.

Whether it is convening small gatherings of thought leaders from the medical community, offering support and information to individuals and families touched by a recent diagnosis of liver disease, or providing insight to civic and business leaders who recognize the value healthier communities, the Upper Midwest Chapter of the American Liver Foundation is working hard every day to prevent, treat and cure liver disease.

A Message From Executive Director David Stibbe

Thank you for visiting the Upper Midwest Chapter of the American Liver Foundation and taking the time to learn how we are reaching into our communities to foster better health through education, advocacy, and the support of research.

Because liver disease affects so many people, regardless of background or social setting, you will find us working in communities throughout Minnesota and the Dakotas. Liver disease can profoundly affect the lives of the one in ten among us who live with it and treating it is an ever challenging field for medical professionals. Importantly, the prevention, treatment and cure of liver disease must be a vital focus of business and community leaders as we face together its broad public health impact. The Upper Midwest Chapter offers a range of programs and events aimed at addressing the concerns of all of these groups, from seeding the growth of support groups to offering educational programs and leading awareness and advocacy efforts.

I encourage you to keep reading to learn more about the events and programs we offer that may be of benefit to you and those you know. Upon further reading, you will find opportunities to connect with others facing the challenges of living with liver disease. You will also find fun events where you can share time with family and friends while watching a ball game, professional and lay educational programs to deepen your knowledge base, a unique opportunity to enjoy a good concert while increasing public awareness of hepatitis, and, yes, fundraising events that make it easy and fun to support our vital work.

I ask that you to give me a call at 952-854-6181, or write to me at dstibbe@liverfoundation.org to learn more about our work, to make suggestions, to volunteer, or to get connected to others. I look forward to hearing from you.

All the best,
David Stibbe
