Home > Divisions > Mid America > About Our Division
>The Mid-America Division was initially organized by a group of dedicated volunteers and opened its first office in St. Louis in July 1998. Through the dedication of many volunteers, we have grown to a staff of four covering Southern Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska, South and North Dakota. Initially the St. Louis Chapter, we then grew to the Missouri Chapter, Missouri/Kansas Chapter and are now known as the Mid-America Division.
Dear Members,
As our local division strives to help people affected by liver disease, we need your help! I invite you to get involved and help make a difference in the fight against liver disease. You and your family can volunteer throughout the year, become a member of American Liver Foundation, become a team captain in the annual Liver Life Walk, remember the organization in your will, give a gift of securities, and so much more.
The funds we raise are returned to our community through advocacy, education, and research programs. More than $1,500,000 has been awarded to local researchers; more than 4,500 people in our community have been screened for hepatitis C and/or vaccinated against hepatitis A & B. The local division serves more than 100,000 people annually and reaches millions more people in our community through media outreach. Our advocacy efforts become the voice of a community often underserved and overlooked in today’s crowded public health environment.
There are more than one million people affected by liver disease in our coverage area. Many of these people are unaware that they have liver disease because symptoms oftentimes do not occur until late in the progression of liver disease. Liver disease is poorly understood and poorly funded. With your help, we can make a difference.
Sincerely,
Richard Mattler
