Clinical trials open to individuals who are infected with Hepatitis C and who meet certain requirements. Please contact Laurie Lynn, Study Coordinator for more information.

Naïve patients diagnosed with hepatitis C, genotype 1, may qualify for
treatment utilizing pegylated interferon and Ribavirin plus a protease
inhibitor. Currently we are working with two different compounds.
Preliminary data is showing approximately a 25% improvement in sustained
viral response using these agents in combination with pegylated interferon
and Ribavirin. This response rate is also being achieved in patients being
treated for 24 weeks vs. 48 weeks.

There is also an opportunity for previously treated patients with hepatitis
C, genotype 1, to receive treatment utilizing the above mentioned drug
combinations. Documentation of prior treatment details such as drug name,
dosing and viral count information throughout treatment is necessary to be
eligible.

Non Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) is the number one cause of liver
disease leading to cirrhosis in the United States, most commonly from
obesity. Currently enrolling are two studies utilizing an appetite
suppressant agent (approved in Europe) to reduce weight and examine the
effect on underlying liver disease. One trial is intended for diabetics and
the other is a non diabetic population.

Lastly, patients with active ulcerative colitis may qualify for a trial
using an injectable anti-TNF agent. Patients however, cannot have
previously treated with Infliximab, any anti-TNF agent or biological
therapy.

All treatment costs and medications are fully covered by the trials. Also
you may be assured that once trial related care is complete all patients
will be asked to continue care with their referring provider. Please do not

The Midland Division of The Salvation Army, is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. It encompasses the state of Missouri, with the exception of Kansas City and six surrounding counties, and southern Illinois

The Army has a strong presence across the Division, with 29 Corps Community Centers; five social service institutions (with 615 beds) in St. Louis; 12 shelters (with 252 beds) outside of St. Louis; and 148 service units (local volunteer units) that are strategically located across the two states.

The Salvation Army's services literally touch people from the cradle to the grave. For example, in St. Louis, after-school programs and day camps serve dozens of children each day, while Booth Manor provides 73 residential units for low-income senior citizens

The Salvation Army spent more than $36 million on service in the Midland Division last year. It is a cost-efficient organization.In St. Louis, for example, 86 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to local programs and services
